North Manchester News-Journal The Peabody Retirement Community's Board of Trustees recently approved a plan to upgrade the enclosed corridors which connect the 32 acre campus buildings. The construction program will offer facility accessibility and parking improvements on the Ninth Street side of the campus. According to Peabody's Chief Financial Officer, Chod Boxell, who is leading this construction program, "The four corridors, which cover 8,000 square feet, will undergo exterior and interior construction (facade changes and wall, ceiling, and flooring improvements), installation of energy efficient windows and heating and cooling, directional signs, and related improvements." He added, "Pneumatic doors installed at the pick-up and drop-off areas will be designed to be more friendly and accessible. In addition, we will be reconfiguring the entrance parking to add at least 20 spaces, including spaces for people with disabilities." Peabody has also received a $55,000 dollar-for-dollar "challenge grant" to fund the upgrade of our antiquated management information systems (computer infrastructure), a vital part of our communication, medical, and financial services. Boxell stated construction should begin in the spring of 2008 and completed in six to nine months. These projects will be funded by gifts to the Peabody Home Foundation. To date, we have secured 70% of the funding to complete this project. The total construction cost is $677,000. Mary Owens, Peabody's Director of Development, commented, "Even though the Board approved the use of the campaign funds for this vital program, Peabody will be entering a campaign to raise the $211,000 balance needed for the completion. Thanks to the challenge grant by the Frank and Laura Smock Foundation, I am sure Peabody will have the funds needed to complete this project in its entirety." Individuals who would like additional information on how to underwrite Peabody's improvement project may contact Mary Owens at 800.545.6220 extension 1104. Established in 1931, Peabody is fully licensed and accredited. The campus is comprised of a 48-bed Memory Enhancement Center, 144 long term care beds, 124 assisted living residences, and 57 cottage (independent living) homes.
