Peabody Resident Receives Helicopter Flight as Birthday Present

North Manchester, IN – Peabody Retirement Community resident, Frances Kipp (pictured left) received a delightful belated birthday present from her granddaughter, Anne Klokow (pictured right). Anne treated Frances to a 20 minute helicopter flight over Peabody and North Manchester.

 

Anne is currently enrolled at Indiana University’s Medical School studying for her physician’s degree. She is a former United States Marine Corps Capitan in helicopter flight services.

 

Frances commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed floating in the air.”

Mr. Taps to Perform at Peabody Retirement Community

The sound of Mr. Taps clicking dance shoes will be featured at Peabody Retirement Community on Thurday, October 14th at 10 a.m. in the organization's Chapel. Sponsored by the Senior Outreach Program at the Honeywill Center. Mr. Taps, from Chicago, is know as Arie King III. His engaging performance and fancy footwork will feature classic African American dancing to the smooth moves and flair of Fred Astaire. The performance is free and open to the community.

Famed Local Artist to Speak at Peabody

Prominent local artist, Penny French Deal will be a guest speaker at Peabody Retirement Community on Thursday, August 19th at 10 a.m. She will be featured in the Strauss Center’s Enrichment Center. The public is cordially invited to attend this free lecture. With over three decades of artist talent, Penny is best known for her artistic works depicting beauty of the countryside. Working primarily with oils painted on linen, her works have appeared at Manchester College, The Hudson Gallery of Fine Arts and Charley Creek Arts Festival.

Under sunny and blue May skies at Peabody Retirement Community’s Strauss garden,  Melissa Shepherd, R.N. of Peabody’s Transitional Care Unit exchanged wedding vows with Arack Jimenez. Officiating at the ceremony was Rev. David Croucher of The Pentecostals of Marion Church. He is the husband of Peabody’s Assistant Director of Nursing, Julia Croucher.

Caring for a Mature Family Member facing Alzheimer’s

On Tuesday, May 18th at 5:30pm Peabody Retirement Community, in conjunction with the Alzheimers’ Association of Greater Indiana, will conduct a free seminar entitled “Promises, Promises – a family program for caregivers of Alzheimr’s disease.” The promises we make to our family members bind us in many ways. join us as we discuss thos “promises, promises” –the consequences of promises made and successful ways to manage them. Speaking at this program will be Melissa L. Barile, M.S., and Regional Director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana. Pre-registration is required by calling 260-982-0737.

Mobile Mammography Unit to visit Peabody Retirement Community

Francine’s Friends mobile mammography unit will be on Peabody’s campus on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 8:45am to 2:30pm. Appointments are preferred, interested individuals should pre-register by calling 260-483-1837 or 800-727-8439; extension 26540. Walk-in openings will be available depending on the schedule. A Peabody contact states, “Breast cancer is the most common cancer that as a woman you may have to face in your lifetime (excluding skin cancer). It’s Peabody’s desire to serve not only our employees and residents, but also make this importatnt service accessble to women within the region.”

Peabody Retirement Community to Observe National Day of Prayer

Thursday, May 6th, America recognizes our 59th Annual National Day of Prayer. According to Rev. Sue Babovec, Director of Spirtual Life at Peabody, “This year’s theme is Prayer for such a time as this.” She added, “The theme is based on the verse from Nahum 1:7 which states; The Lord is a good refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” Community guests are cordially invited to join residents, patients, and employees at 9:00am on May 6th in the Peabody Chapel to celebrate the Annual National Day of Prayer.

State route 114 to Undergo Major Asphalt Resurface Project

If you travel on State Route 114 just east of North Manchester, be prepared to add more time to your “drive time.” INDOT Fort Wayne District states that “State Route 114 will undergo a major asphalt resurfacing beginning Monday, April 26th. The project will be in full operation seven days a week and should conclude near mid-May, weather permitting.” The official detour route for State Route 114 is the following: State Road 105 to State Road 13; this adds 12.6 miles for through traffic.

Peabody Retirement Community to Conduct Informative Symposiums

Dr. AustromVA speaker at Peabody.Peabody will be hosting two informative symposiums during April. Dr. Mary Guerrirro Austrom, Ph.D. will speak on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 5:30pm. Dr. Austrom is an expert in aging and Alzheimer disease. Dr. Austrom will share the latest research concerning Alzheimer’s disease and what it means to the people and families affected by the disease.
Representatives from Veterans Financial, Inc. will condust an information program on “U.S. Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefits” on April 29, 2010 at Noon and again at 6:30pm. Pre-registration is reqested for both events by calling 260-982-0737.

Peabody Tulip Festival is Saturday, April 24, 2010
