Peabody Tower Repair Work To Begin September 7th, 2010

All roads around the Tower will be closed for 8 weeks,
including the main Maple Street entrance. The main Strauss Center entrance and the Peabody Inn main entrance will not be accessible by vehicle during this time.

The 9th Street entrance will be the temporary main entrance. The South House entrances will remain open.

Peabody Drive will be open to ALL Independent Living residences. Vehicles parked in front of South house or on Peabody Drive may become damaged from tower work-
PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK

Reserved resident parking for the Peabody Inn will be relocated to the 9th Street parking lot.

Peabody Entertainers Present “Strolling down Memory Lane”

The Peabody Eentertainers will present thier 2010 show – “Strolling down Memory Lane” at Peabody Retirement Community on Monday, August 30th at 7PM and Tuesday, August 31st at 2PM. Both shows will be held in Peabody’s Chapel, located at 400 West Seventh Street, North Manchester, IN. The shows are free and open to the public.
The show consists of music from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s such as Peppermint Twist, Rock Around the Clock, Chapel of Love, and many more.
The Peabody Entertainers were organized in 1998 by Carol Davis and have performed over 175 shows on the Peabdoy campus, at community functions, and at area organizations within a fifty mile radius of North Manchester.

Peabody Resident donated Funds to Renovate Historic Tower

As a Peabody Retirement Community resident for over 25 years, Betty Krom frequently walked around or gazed at the campus’ historic Peabody Singing Tower, which graciously looms over the 33 acre campus. Over this period Betty has developed a very strong and viable sense of community and passion for the coummunity she calls home. Wwith this passion, she recently directed a $150,000 gift to Peabdoy to renovate the tower.
Betty stated, “Peabody has been a wonderful blessing to me and my family. I have spent many years walking and enjoying this campus and I am glad I am able to make a gift to bless the community that has blessed me!
The 100 foot Peabody tower was constructed in 1937 and is designed after the 205 foot high Bok tower located in Lakes Wales, FL, as well as a similar tower in Austria. The tower was inspected in 2009 and wasn oted structurally sound. Tower renovation is slated to begin after the first of September.

Famed Local Artis to Speak at Peabody

Prominent local artist, Penny French Deal will be a guest speaker at Peabody Retirement Community on Thursday, August 19th at 10 a.m. She will be featured in the Strauss Center’s Enrichment Center.

The public is cordially invited to attend this free lecture.

With over three decades of artist talent, Penny is best known for her artistic works depicting beauty of the countryside. Working primarily with oils painted on linen, her works have appeared at Manchester College, The Hudson Gallery of Fine Arts and Charley Creek Arts Festival.

Peabody to Offer Retirement Living 101 Speaker

Randalynn Kaye, renowned author and speaker, will visit Peabody Retirement Community on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. She will conduct two programs on “Retirement 101 , Making Sense of Retirement Living.”
The first program is at 11:00am followed by lunch. The second program opens with refreshments at 6:00pm with the presentation beginning at 6:30pm. Both programs are free of charge and take place in Peabody Retirement Community’s Strauss Center.

Peabody to Feature Speaker on Grand Canyon Visit

On Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00am in Peabody Retirement Community’s Enrichment Center, Lucy McKinley will conduct a travelogue on the Grand Canyon. Lucy and her family visited this magnificent; natural setting in May.
The free presentation is open to cummunity guests, as well as Peabody residents.

Update on State Road 114 Construction

INDOT has recently informed Peabody that the current route 114 construction will be continuing into early June. The construction area involves the roadway East of North Manchester to State Route 9. Authorities have revealed the pipe work is complete and milling preparatin is underway. Paving will follow and there will be some new guardrails installed.
Periodic roadway stoppages will occur.

State route 114 to Undergo Major Asphalt Resurface Project

If you travel on State Route 114 just east of North Manchester, be prepared to add more time to your “drive time.” INDOT Fort Wayne District states that “State Route 114 will undergo a major asphalt resurfacing beginning Monday, April 26th. The project will be in full operation seven days a week and should conclude near mid-May, weather permitting.” The official detour route for State Route 114 is the following: State Road 105 to State Road 13; this adds 12.6 miles for through traffic.

Peabody Retirement Community to Conduct Informative Symposiums

Dr. AustromVA speaker at Peabody.Peabody will be hosting two informative symposiums during April. Dr. Mary Guerrirro Austrom, Ph.D. will speak on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 5:30pm. Dr. Austrom is an expert in aging and Alzheimer disease. Dr. Austrom will share the latest research concerning Alzheimer’s disease and what it means to the people and families affected by the disease.
Representatives from Veterans Financial, Inc. will condust an information program on “U.S. Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefits” on April 29, 2010 at Noon and again at 6:30pm. Pre-registration is reqested for both events by calling 260-982-0737.
