Plans are underway for the 12th Peabody Annual Tulip Festival. Scheduled entertainment includes the Swampwater Stompers. They are a popular, local 7 member Dixieland Jazz band. There will be plenty of good food, door prizes, and a book sale. These are just a few of the activities being scheduled; however, the highlight of the festival is the 10,000 blooming tulips planted around the Peabody campus. Put the date on your calendar and come tiptoe through the tulips with us from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, April 24, 2010!!
Archive for February, 2010Annual Tulip Festival Just Around The CornerFriday, February 26th, 2010Olympic Gold Medal Recipient Speaks at PeabodyThursday, February 25th, 2010North Manchester, IN – As Peabody Retirement Community and the world prepared for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, 1956 gold medal recipient, Gregory Bell, DDS recently spoke at Peabody before an audience of over 50 guests. Peabody Independent Living resident, Virginia Spencer (center) holds Dr. Bell’s (second from left) 1956 Melbourne Olympic gold medal for the long jump. Virginia is a former Logansport, IN resident and Dr. Bell currently resides in Logansport. Also shown are Peabody residents Ron Thrush (far left, standing), David Roth (standing), and Lyle and Shirley Williams (seated to the right). Speaking about his childhood life, as well as military career, formal education, and journey into track and field, Dr. Bell also shared his love of reading and creating poetry. He presented Peabody with several copies of his “Flecks of Gold” collection of his personal poetry. These books were placed in Peabody’s library. Peabody to Offer Residents and Guests a For Immediate Release North Manchester, IN – During the month of February Peabody Retirement Community will offer a variety of Interesting and fun speakers and events. According to Lucy McKinley, Peabody Recreation Coordinator, the following free events are scheduled: • Winter Olympics – Join us as we celebrate and view the Friday, February 12th to Sunday, February 28th Winter Olympics from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on our large screen television. In addition, on Thursday, February 11th at 10 a.m. in the Enrichment Center Peabody will feature 1956 Olympic gold medal winner in the long jump. Gregory Bell, D.D.S., of Logansport, IN. Light refreshments will be served. • Elvis will enter the building – An Elvis impersonator will appear at Peabody’s Enrichment Center on Friday, February 12th at 3 p.m. Will it be the young or the older Elvis? Come visit us. Sorry, no peanut butter and banana sandwiches will be served. • Valentine’s Party – Love will be in the air on Tuesday, February 16th at 2 p.m. when Peabody hosts a Valentine’s party. Diane Devereaux will present “A Romantic Afternoon with Jeannette MacDonald” – a tribute to Ms. MacDonald’s music and songs. Light refreshments will be served.
